There's a problem in our house. It centers around one of our family members who is getting a little too set in his ways, maybe a little to stubborn, and less willing to listen and more willing to snap at others who's opinion he doesn't share.
It's our dog.
Cody isn't the dog he used to be. He moves a little slower than Charlie (our younger guy), sometimes needs a second chance at jumping up on the bed, and is beginning to pretend not to hear me when I tell him to kennel.
You know the behavior. Turning his head away from me so as not to make eye contact, whistling a snappy tune, etc....
I mention this to my daughter, and she asks me if we can take him to that "dog whisperer" guy on TV, and he can straighten him out.
I reply that I doubt that this if feasible, since I have no idea who this guy really is, nor where he is located.
I do not bring up the fact that I am sure that I cannot, in any way, afford anything close to "dog whisperer money."
She then asks, with all sincerity, if there is someone in town who does this for a living.
In my mind, I quickly see local mom-and-pop Dog Whisperer shop lining small town Main Streets like espresso shops. Big city dog whisperers schlepping home after a long day of whispering to Great Danes and Wiener dogs.
"I swear, Fred, if one more of those Schnauzers starts mumbling again, I don't know what I'll do."
That's the kind of world I'd like to live in.
